Attendees will explore high-leverage routines that can be incorporated into whole-group and small-group instruction to provide opportunities for explicit instruction and practice in syntax and sentence structure.

Unlocking Words: Building Comprehension Through Vocabulary and Morphology

This two-day workshop will clarify participants’ understanding of how vocabulary knowledge, morphological awareness, and independent word-learning skills work together to boost reading comprehension and improve literacy outcomes.

On Day 1, participants will gain tools and routines that work with any curriculum to ensure that vocabulary instruction is focused and morphological awareness is supported in a developmentally friendly way from the youngest learners to the oldest.

On Day 2, participants will learn how to synthesize this learning into independent word-solving routines that will help students unlock the meaning of unknown words in their independent reading.  With ample time to plan and connect learning to their own curriculum, teachers will leave with practical, applicable next steps for their instruction in these key bridging processes.
